food and books. Where are these people going to end?
I was worried about putting Tory and think in the same phrase, to be honest..
that’s tory, think and honest, aarghh.
Well the truth of the matter is that VAT has been levied on children’s clothes and food right from the start but at zero %.
Great trick that was, because there is no need to pass a bill through parliament ……… simply increase the amount of VAT.
In the first 5 months of this government taxes have risen more than in the whole 13 years of the Labour government ………… don’t forget that VAT is due to increase by 16 1/2% in January.
I am not sure a tory tank can actually think.
But to answer your question when will it end – the sooner the better.

When will it end Jack? Who knows. The Tory’s seem shameless in decimating anything, and have proved several times now that nothing is sacrosanct; not even anything related to children.
I am just waiting for a pay-as-you-go taxation on seated toilet visits, and a percentage cap on Oxygen consumption above the national average.

Makes me laugh. Everyone moaning. OK clever clogs, where is the money supposed to come from.
You talk about taxing the children. Well if we dont sort out this mess, we’ll be dumping a whole lot worse financial situation on them in the future.
People need to grow up, suck it up and accept that while we were living off the fat of the land for the last 10 years, the chickens have now come home to roost.

In the bad old days (when I lived there), as a smoker, drinker and driver, though not at the same time of course, I used to dread budget day. Every year, extra tax on cigs, booze and petrol. I often thought wouldn’t it be more fair to tax loo paper – then at least everyone would have to pay:-)

A think tank is exactly that; a group of people thinking about possible ways to help mop up the nation’s debt. It is by no means a certainty that all options will be taken up – including the thought about putting VAT onto children’s clothes. As far as toys are concerned however, why shouldn’t these be subjected to VAT; they are not vital after all? If women’s sanitary items can be subjected to this tax then so can many other items!

I think no VAT on books or kids clothes is now out of date. The variation in the price of kids clothes is massive, why on earth are designer kids clothes being sold free of VAT.
