How long are newborns in newborn clothes for? would it be worth me buying a lot of newborn clothes? or just essential newborn clothes like vests and sleepsuits then getting everything else for 0-3months?
Your baby will outgrow clothes, very very fast. One thing to remember is that just because the size of the clothes say 0 – 3 months or 3 -6 months it may not be the case. You will find out that many clothes that are supposed to be the same size are not. This varies by brand and can even vary within different clothing lines within a brand.
One thing I always suggest and did, is to go to a gently used kids clothing store. Once Upon a Child is a national franchise that may be in your city. See if they are, and look for other used baby clothing stores. These places are great for many reasons.
1) They only take in good clothes which are not damaged or stained. many are new, especially in this size range.
2) Since your baby will outgrow these clothes so fast you can take them to the store once outgrown and get store credit for them. It will be less than you paid, but at least you get something.
Search your town for these types of places. Some may be locally owned. Stay away from Salvation Army, Goodwill and Value Village unless you are looking for cheaper stuff.
To answer your question. Buy 0 – 3 months, but if possible, buy more 3 – 6 months.

Buy a few of each. You can go get more if you need to. My son barely wore any clothes I got in any size because he grew so fast. He’s 6 months and wearing 9-12 month clothes. My daughter took forever to get from one size to the next. So, just wait and see. And yes buy used!

I don’t have kids but I hear so many people say buy the clothing bigger than the child is as children go so quickly and the child can grow into them but I guess you do need a couple of newborn clothes so that your baby isn’t always is ‘baggy’ clothing lol.

In my personal experience they only wear the newborns for about the first 2-3 wks or so. I would go with more 0-3 months vrs. newborn.

I bought about 10 newborn onesies but my daughter was born in July..I bought a lot more 0-3 month clothes because by one month she was out of the newborn and into the 0-3 month clothes.

Seriously do not get too much they grow so quickly. not even 0-3months there not in them that long. With my 1st and even second child I still had things I bought unused and tagged. Literally have one draw of baby grows and vests and another for trousers and tops.
Get used clothes as well, because they will be in great condition still and very cheap!

I’d skip the newborn size altogether. If you’re having a shower, you might receive some newborn sizes, just leave it at that. If you end up having the baby prematurely, and the baby is really small, you might have to invest in a few more. Otherwise, the 3 month size will be fine for a bit. Mine all stayed in 6 month very briefly, they’ll be in 9-12 months much longer.

both of my children were between 7-8 lbs at birth and wore the newborn outfits for 3, maybe 4 weeks. I would just go with 0-3 and not bother buying any newborn cloths. Better to buy a size up.

Get six of each newborn sized one piece garments (onesies, rompers, singlesuits) and vests appropriate to the season.
Really that’s ALL you’ll need in the newborn size unless you have a preemie. Cute outfits aren’t really practical.
Buy the cute stuff in 0-3 size, things like matinee jackets they can wear from birth, it doesn’t matter if they are slightly big.
If you see something marked down to an almost criminal price in the newborn size no one here will blame you for buying it! We’d all do the same!

I was told that I was having a small baby, but guess what my small baby was 8lb 15oz. By the time we came home she did not fit into newborn clothing. I suggest you but mostly 0-3 months. They go up to 13lb for that size, so you will get your moneys worth out of it. By mostly pj’s, you will not want to get this tinny fragile human into multiple pieces.

Babies do outgrow there clothes very quickly. My son only wore newborn clothes for about 2 weeks before he was wearing 0-3 months. He has some clothes that were only worn once. I would get a few pieces of different sizes but don’t get too much. Like everybody else is saying you can go to thrift stores and find tons of nice, name brand clothes for cheap.

Do buy some newborn stuff though. I bought very little and my daughter came out 6lbs, 11oz and was too small for 0-3 months.

Honestly, I would buy one or two items like vests and sleepsuits in newborn and the rest in 0-3. My daughter was 9lb 7.5oz and barely fit into newborn clothes for a week when she was born.
The legs and arms may be a bit baggy on 0-3 clothes for the first two or three weeks but when babies lose a lot of weight in the first few days of birth they also have a big growth spurt around 3-4 weeks and you’ll find they won’t be fitting in any newborn clothes by 8 weeks.
