My daughter was born at 6 lbs 15 oz and was 21 inches long. She is now 2 1/2 months and is 12 lbs 13 oz and 23 inches long, and wearing Carter’s 6 month clothes. I do have 2 older boys, but I cannot remember how the sizes worked with them, as one is 13 years old and the younger is 10, so it’s been 10 years since I’ve dealt with this! I have a whole bunch of 6 month summer clothes and I’m afraid to take the tags off of them because she has almost doubled her weight in 2 months. Her babysitter tells me she’s going to slow down now for a while and will wear the 6 month clothes until she’s about 6 months. Can anyone help me, because if I have to exchange this stuff, I have to do it soon or I won’t get full credit for it!
I’m gonna go ahead and bring the summer stuff back and get store credit to be safe. If she’s still in 6 month by summer, I can always go back and get it again with the credit. Being that she’s not even 3 months and is completely grown out of 3-6 month clothes, this is probably my best bet, because if she’s wearing 6 month clothes now, I’m pretty sure she’ll be in Carter’s 9 months by the time she’s 4 1/2 months.
Thanks Moms!
My daughter stuck pretty close to the sizes…wearing 6 month clothes when she was 6 months old, 12 month clothes at 12 months, etc. If you are concerned, just go and take the clothes back. You can always repurchase similar items if she’s still wearing 6-month size clothing when summer hits.

Well, clothing sizes vary from child to child seeing how each child grows at different paces.
My daughter is 10mons, but wear 18mons clothing. I’ve never understood where they get these sizes & weights from bc I’ve never known a baby that wear they’re exact age in size.
As far as your daughter goes, it really depends. Yes, she’s hit a MAJOR growth spurt, like they all do, but she could possibly slow down & fit into those clothes. If I were you, I’d exchange them for 9mons bc babies grow so quickly.

My daughter is 7 months old and is wearing size 3-6 month onsies and shirts and pants and 6-9 sleepers. But with Carters, i find she can go up a size. I find they are made a bit smaller.
My daughter has slowed down putting on wieght. she gained about 1.5 lbs in 2 months. See how shes growing and if you think she can almost fit into them now, get a bigger size.

I don’t know about what your baby sitter said. My baby was born 6.5lbs and at 2 months she was 13 lbs and now at 5 months she’s 20lbs! My daughters growth certainly hasn’t slowed down lol. She’s wearing 6-9month clothes until they get washed then normally they end up to small for her.I would probably keep the tags on in case you need to exchange….

They generally gain about 2 lbs per month. If your daughter has been following a steady growth curve then you can grab an infant growth chart and estimate where she will be when summer hits. This growth pattern should not slow until after she hits 6 months old. I’ve found both my sons seemed to grow into the next clothing size at least a month before they actually were that age. My 4 month old is currently starting to wear some 6-9 month clothing (Carters sizing) and it sounds like your daughter is growing fast like this too. I would exchange the clothes for 6-9, it really doesn’t matter if they are a little big to start, it will matter if they are too small though.
