Duh…but people are selfish and love to take advantage of ‘the system’…so all of us have to pay for thier babies formula, so they can wear designer shoes.

Maybe the designer stuff were gifts. I know I don’t buy my son expensive clothing, but his grandma and aunt sure do!

I’m not on WIC, but money is tight.

Maybe. But you’d be surprised what you can find in a second-hand store. Those name-brand shoes? Might be a gift, or might have been purchased in a thrift shop for fifty cents. They might have been hand-me-downs from a wealthier relative, or leftovers from a previous child that grew up in a more financially secure situation.

There’s no way for anyone to know what anyone else’s situation is based on appearances alone. I drive a $30,000 car… a gift from my wealthy mother in law who didn’t want her granddaughter in the unsafe vehicle we had.

My daughter wears brand-new Nike shoes… again, because my mother in law bought them for her. When I buy them? Dollar store specials, baby. I’m not about to throw $50 down on a pair of shoes that will be outgrown quickly, but I’m not about to turn my nose up at a generous gift.

well thankfully i don’t worry about either of those

i breastfeed and dress my baby is clean simple clothing

BUT….i do receive the WIC package for breastfeeding mothers…..it does help out……i am in school and we are a one income household right now…..we get by…..we work hard to make good financial decisions but having a bit of backup is nice

while i think that WIC needs a MAJOR reform don’t be so quick to jump on those that need help

edit……and i have to agree with Dragon…….i love love love consignment shops and such….damn good clothing with a cheap price tag

My daughter is on WIC formula, because I’m a young mom working my ass off and just can’t seem to afford 26 dollar cans twice a week. =|

And she wears hand-me-downs and gift clothes. I got some fancy shitt from relatives for her. Doesn’t mean she can’t wear nice stuff and be on WIC.

Besides. My parents paid taxes for 35 years (and probably 35 more after this).

And do you guys realize you have to QUALIFY for WIC.. they don’t just give it to anybody. =|
    Come on now.

I have the money and I don’t believe in designer clothes and shoes for infants. They grow to fast, they spit up, and they’re babies! There are plenty of cute inexpensive clothes for babies. They don’t need a brand name to make them look nice.

If they fit the criteria for income then they deserve to get wic.

Like the others’ said, just because you see the kid wearing nice stuff, could have been gifts, great deals at garage sales, shops, etc.

If you know that they are the ones buying the clothes, I guess if they want to dress their kid like that, it is their biz, if they still fall into the income criteria of receiving wic, it doesn’t really change anything.

We made just a little too much to qualify for wic and my kids’ had nice clothes, almost all were gifts and hand me downs, but if we would have qualified you bet I would have used it, we have payed alot in taxes over the years, and people who have paid into the system deserve it just as much or more than people who never have paid taxes.

I get wic. I get medicaid. My husband works out of town for days and weeks on end and pays taxes. I do not feel guilty one bit about buying my sons Nike shoes, or my Avon habit. I shop carefully, I buy what is on sale. I also shop at second hand and thrift stores. My son participates is basketball, football, field trips, book sales and every thing else that will make his childhood memorable. I still do not feel guilty. If my taxes are going to pay for someone’s medical bills, baby formula, or any thing else, it may was well be mine.

Well, Goodwill has designer shoes and clothes too at times. So, if you’re going by seeing how the kids/parents are dressed, don’t make assumptions on how they got them.

Absolutely, unfortunately some people are very greedy and do not see things from our point of view. They see it as an opportunity to feed the child for free at our expense and use their cash to dress their kids better than ours.

I think what’s needed here is more info. Do you know for a fact that she is buying the designer clothes and shoes with her own money? If she is, then no, she probably doesn’t need wic. Actually if she can afford them, I can’t imagine that she would even qualify for wic. However, speaking from my own situation… I take part in wic. I shop at garage sales and second hand stores (both of which you can find extremely nice things at for very cheap) because I can’t afford the brand name store bought clothes. Hence the wic program. The grandparents on the other hand, buy new outifts in the stores.
I don’t see the point of the brand new clothes anyway, as kids just wreck or grow out of them. But, if someone saw my kid out in clothes that were purchased by grandma, they’d probably be asking the same question of me because they don’t know where the stuff came from. Point being, make sure you know all the facts before you judge.

I agree 100% with butterfly_beauty_4.My husband works & pays taxes & I am on wic & medicaid.I don’t feel guilty about it whatsoever.I worked up until my 3rd month of pregnancy & had to quit. You don’t know how they got those clothes anyways. Most people, myself included, like to go to garage sales, consignment shops & ebay to buy clothes for the family.Just because it is name brand doesn’t mean anything. How is it your business anyways..
