Author: My girls will be 2 and 3 next month. Up until a few months before Christmas, my oldest wore a 2T and my youngest wore size 18 months. Now with summer approaching, I decided to get them each a pair of new shorts to see what sizes they would need. My youngest can’t wear anything bigger than size 12 months in shorts because she is so petite. I thought that was funny because she is so tall that size 2T pants are getting short on her. My oldest got a pair of shorts sized 4T and they were tight around her belly. I’m having a difficult time finding clothes for them. I already had to hem my oldest’ pants over winter because she is short and chubby. My youngest has to wear belts with pants and those are hard to find for her. Does anyone have any suggestions of what I can do? Also, does anyone else wish they made kids clothes like they do for adults? I’m talking about the tall/short/petite/plus, etc. sizes,
What a good idea! my daughter is very tall and skinny. i have to buy 3T pants to get them long enough for her but they are wayyyyy to big in the waist! she wears an 18month in shorts. She turned 2 in February and thank goodness my mother and mother in law can both sew to alter her clothing to fit correctly! oh check the childrens place for belts, Ive had some luck there! Other than finding someone who can alter the clothing i think you will just have to continue what you are doing now! Good Luck!

My son also has a tiny waste (he’s now into 4T for length but could literally still fit into 24 month wastebands). Try finding pants and shorts that have adjustable wastebands. They’re kind of like maternity pants, they have an elastic strip and buttons inside the pants so you can adjust them. There are lots of brands that make them now, but my favorites are OshKosh.

I know!! My son is 2- and he is "tall and skinny" So- either his pants are falling off, or they look like high waters. And are too short. Also, his sweaters seem to be too short by the waist, and too long on the sleeves… very annoying.

don’t stress the sizes. buy clothes that fit, make sure the kids get lots of exercise, and eat healthy foods.

Go to a store where they sell clothes that are not a set. Like tops & bottoms could be bought in different sizes. You might want to try babies are us, store.

YOu know I have the same problem my little girl is 3 she was in a 5 t when she was 1 1/2 but she was short and round but my son it tall and shinny everything falls off or looks like shorts on him I am not sure where they get some of the sizes from I buy bigger and size them down you can pratice go to goodwill buy a part of P.J to try out on

My oldest son is five. He is so tall. I have to buy slim cut at Old Navy or pants that have the elastic with buttons on the inside of the waist to make them smaller otherwise he’d be wearing floods all the time. My middle son, 4, is peite like me. He is also somewhat skinny also. I had to go buy suppenders for him. The length is good but not the waist. My youngest is 2 and he is a big chub. He wears size 4, the same size as my middle. At 6 months, he as in 2t shirts because his arms were so long. I’d shop everywhere because every brand is different. I do know that Old Navy tends to run their sizes a little bigger though. They are not tight fitting.

I’m starting to have this problem with my own daughter who is 2 years old, yet I need to already get 4T clothes for her. She is very tall and very skinny, so while the 4T pants are a good length, I have need to buy a belt to keep them up. The 3T’s are just too short.
You also need to be aware that just like in womens clothing, children’s clothes made by different manufacuter’s will come in varying degrees of sizes. A 3T in one brand can be a 4T in another and a 2T in another. The best thing to do is to have her try on all clothing as soon as you get them from the store, and if something doesn’t fit, you can always exchange it for another size.

My son is 1 yr old now and wears a size 18 or mostly 24 months! When he was 3 months he wore size 6/9 months and six months he wore, 12 months. Hes a big boy like his dad. Its normal trust me

my daughter is tall and think with a long torso and she can’t where matching 2 piece suits because the top is too short or the pants too long. so I can’t wait till summer when she can wear lots of dresses, shorts and caprice without worrying that everything is to long/short

I know you now know that you are not alone in this problem! Manufacturers size things differently so you can’t even go by a size most of the time. I sure wish they made talls and shorts, etc.! It is easier in the summer for my granddaughters’ because they can wear capris and shorts. The 23 month old is slightly above average in height so the length of her pants is not too bad but the almost five year old is very tall and slender and not only are all the pants that fit her in the waist high waters the shirts sometimes barely cover her tummy. We often dress her in dresses and have her wear leggings or shorts underneath just so we don’t have to worry so much about the length. She needs a six for length and a four for the waist.
If I knew how to sew I’d just make her some clothes!

My son can wear a 24 months in his waste but he’s so tall he wears a 5 in length. I buy him Wrangler jeans with the adjustable waist band and then I usually have to add a belt. I’ve seen pant that are "slims" but can’t find them any smaller than a 6.
