I have heard that there are services that you can rent newborn baby clothes, and due to them growing so quickly that this is a viable option.

If you don’t rent now would you be attracted to this type of service? What would be the pro’s and con’s?

Doing some reasearch, and your answers and thoughts are appreciated!

I find that unappealing on several levels, but I’ll answer it from a business perspective.

Lessee- will never get their ‘deposit’ back because it would be rare to return all clothing in the same condition it was rented.

Leassor- will have constant outflow of cash with minimal inflow because of the above- clothing can never to rarely be returned in new condition! Even consignment shops only take a fraction of what people bring them for consideration.

I am having my first baby and I am not having a baby shower because I dont have family. My baby is due July 27th of this year and I need to know what I need to buy and how much of it? I am clueless. Anyone know where to get cheap baby clothes? Im not sure if I need little hats and coats or not?

For great deals on baby clothes you may want to check out Ebay, Craigslist, and your local baby re-sale shops (Play it Again, Once Upon A Child, etc.). They sell great quality items that are used. You may also want to see if there are any re-sale events going on in your area….

As far as HOW MUCH to get…..hold back on getting TONS of newborn stuff. I would, honestly, only get a couple of items in THAT size. Your baby could be too big to fit into it….or not fit into it long enough to justify having gotten it. Get a couple of outfits for pictures….and then stick to 0-3 and 3-6 items.

Sleepers are great
Onesies are great
Cute outfits….you won’t want to mess with them after a couple of weeks go by. Hard to change diapers with these and they have a tendancy to ride up on baby!

Sockies…buy a fair amount of these because they disappear like crazy. My washer must have eaten half of mine!

Mitts….not that necesary. A lot of the sleepers will have the fold down cuff. Just keep babies nails trimmed…it will keep her from scratching her face!

Caps…for a baby born in July…not that neccesary.

So here is what I would buy….

2- Newborn Outfits (Cute ones for photos)
3- 0-3 month outfits (Cute ones for photos and outings)

5 Sleepers/Rompers 0-3 months
5 Sleepers/Rompers 3-6 months
10 Onesies 0-3 Months
10 Onesies 3-6 months
5 Pair of Pants 0-3months
5 Pair of Pants 3-6months
20 pairs of sockies 0-6 months
2 Caps

6 RECEIVING BLANKETS (Do get a fair amount of these. WalMart makes a Child of Mine Brand by Carters that is 30X40 and that is the PERFECT size for swaddling. These blankets hold up to repeated washigns, don’t shrink, and don’t get fuzzy. They come in packs of three….get TWO packs!!! You can use these for blankets, burp cloths, changing pads, cleaning up messes, THEY ARE GREAT!!!

Hope that helped. Good luck to you….take care of yourself and that baby!!

Our baby girl is due January next year and my hubby and I are quite confused with what and how many clothes to get for the baby. There are so many varieties of the same thing (e.g. onesies come in long/short sleeve, cotton/fleece). Winter in northern CA is not really that cold, so I’m not sure if the "winter baby" suggestions on the web are applicable…thanks
- how many of everything did you get?

We also have a Jan baby and live in Northern Ca- Honestly you don’t think that you need the winter clothes because it’s relatively warm- but you also need to remember that they aren’t as use to the cold as you/we are. When I had my dd in 07 it was 35 here- so don’t be surprised if some days get a little colder.

I personally always put onesies on my LO- not only do they keep clothes off the skin, they help to protect when they have blow outs, or leak diapers- Personally no leaky diapers but plenty of blow outs- Also in the 1st 2 months- you basically keep your LO in 1 piece outfits/ pj type- and a few outfits for special occasions or going out.

Long sleeve fleece are perfect and so are the sweat shirt material 2 piece out fits. The less snaps/buttons the better- you change them so often at this time, that zippers are best or things that you can slip over their head- I preferred the long sleeve- night gowns with draw strings at the bottom for the first month. Boy or girl-especially for night diaper changes- you just pull it up and you don’t risk waking your newborn.

I honestly never put my dd in anything short sleeve until April- for going out. I think thick cotton and fleece is perfect. I would say have enough clothes for at least 3 outfits a day-so 21 article’s of clothing a week- if you want to do wash every week. If you don’t 42 pieces. It sounds like a lot but if you have a LO like myself you will have to change them a lot. Between the spit ups and the blow outs- Also get a good pair of booties- Carter’s makes some nice knitted one’s, and Target carries a nice pair of fleece once. They are much easier to get on then shoes and stay on better then socks.

Since you should be putting your LO in a thick coat or jacket under the car seat- I suggest you get a nice fleece one piece outfit from Lands End or even Carters- then just throw a thick fleece or cotton blanket over your infant carrier for going outside- the external car seat covers are not recommended due to safety issues with the seat/when connected to the base/seat belt.

Your best bet- for ease of use for the 1st month – it 2 piece long sleeve top/bottoms, and 1 piece zip up outfits or one’s without a lot of snaps.
Also some stretchy cotton blankets- Carters makes some great ones for swaddling- Wearable fleece blankets are also really nice- some nights I would put my dd in a long sleeve onesie, long pants and the wearable blankets for bed- this was around 2 months- when she started sleeping for longer then 3 hours.
Congrats and good luck.

I’m thinking my daughter will wear size newborn for about another week and a half making her a few weeks old.

A couple weeks is pretty common. My kids were at the opposite ends. lol My son was 7lbs 12 oz at birth but chunked out fast and was wearing 6-9 months by 3 months or so. My daughter was 5 lbs 13 oz and in preemie clothes for the first few weeks, then newborn for about a month. It varies so much for each baby.

I’m looking for unisex baby clothes newborn or 0-3 months with a tiger on them can anyone help?

which country are you from?http://www.google.co.uk/products?hl=en&rlz=1C1CHNG_en-GBGB329GB329&resnum=0&q=baby+tiger+outfit&um=1&ie=UTF-8&ei=iMSOS9jnEIzw0gTrtdHqDA&sa=X&oi=product_result_group&ct=title&resnum=1&ved=0CBoQrQQwAA

I’m 7mnths pregnant and started putting my babies clothes in her draws. I noticed that 98% of the onesies are newborn size..So im a little worried cause I know everyone says to buy clothes bigger BUT aren’t newborn sizes up to 8pds? And they make newborn n 3mnth sizes for a reason, right? So did your baby wear newborns at all or even at least one month???

nope my baby was born 8 lbs and he fit jus right in premies… newborn were big on him.

How long did your baby where newborn size clothes before moving into 3 month clothes. And how long did it where 3 month outfits before moving to 6 month? Thank you!

Of course this all depends on the size of your baby when they are born and how fast they put on weight plus how tall they are. Liam was 7lbs 1oz 19 1/2" and was not in newborn clothes long at all!!! I only had a few sets. He was in 0-3 for a tiny bit also. He started wearing 6 month clothing around 4 months. Congrats to you! :D

How long are newborns in newborn clothes for? would it be worth me buying a lot of newborn clothes? or just essential newborn clothes like vests and sleepsuits then getting everything else for 0-3months?

Your baby will outgrow clothes, very very fast. One thing to remember is that just because the size of the clothes say 0 – 3 months or 3 -6 months it may not be the case. You will find out that many clothes that are supposed to be the same size are not. This varies by brand and can even vary within different clothing lines within a brand.

One thing I always suggest and did, is to go to a gently used kids clothing store. Once Upon a Child is a national franchise that may be in your city. See if they are, and look for other used baby clothing stores. These places are great for many reasons.

1) They only take in good clothes which are not damaged or stained. many are new, especially in this size range.

2) Since your baby will outgrow these clothes so fast you can take them to the store once outgrown and get store credit for them. It will be less than you paid, but at least you get something.

Search your town for these types of places. Some may be locally owned. Stay away from Salvation Army, Goodwill and Value Village unless you are looking for cheaper stuff.

To answer your question. Buy 0 – 3 months, but if possible, buy more 3 – 6 months.

Hi..

I was just thinking about stuff i need for when my baby is born and i’m getting quite stuck on how many clothes to buy. I no babys go through clothes really quickly, grow out of them and they need washing quite often, but how much newborn stuff (from your own experience ) would you suggest i should buy? How much of each thing would you suggest ?

Please help me out,

Thank you :)

Well I have 2 kids. One was born in March when it was still kinda cold out and then my son was born in July when it’s really hot. So it all depends on the time of year you are due.

With my daughter (Born in March) I bought her a little bit of everything aside from what I got at the baby shower.

Then with my son (Born in July 2006) I had lots of summer clothes given to me at the baby shower. So I really didn’t have to buy anything until winter hit.
The main thing you use the most of is onesies, sleepers, and 1 piece outfits.

I would just keep track of what you have and keep reciepts so if anything doesn’t get used you can maybe take it back and exchange it for something that you need.
