1. How to give your newborn a sponge bath? I mean, can I use a waschcloth? Do I start out with a damp one with soap, then a damp one with water? I’ve never given one but know you have to until the umbilical cord falls off.
2. If you put diaper rash ointment on every diaper change to prevent diaper rash, do you put it on the boys penis too? Or just the butt?
3. I live in a very warm climate. Can I dress him in just a onsie (day and night in summer) I will change the onsie at night.
4. Can I wash our clothes together if use Dreft? Or should it still be seperate even though I am using the baby detergent?
5. When can he hold up his head on his own? Should I wait until then to place him on his tummy for supervised tummy time? (NO I wouldn’t leave him alone like that or let him sleep that way, I mean for strengthening the muscles)
6. About how many months did your size N or 1 pampers last you? How many/day?
These questions aren’t ever addressed in magazines!
A big thank you to all the great answers. Thank you for taking the time to answer all my questions! They are very helpful.
Oh fyi the ac isn’t on at night because it doesn’t reach my room anyway, so my room is hot, yuck
1. Yes, that is how you do it. I like to wrap the baby in a towel and then do part by part so that the baby doesn’t get cold.
2. I think it is a good idea to use ointment every change to avoid getting a bad rash. I also think it is good to avoid the wipes, in the beginning at least, because they can irritate the baby skin. I usually use cotton with water and then pat dry the area. For messy diapers I wash with baby soap.
3. They say the baby should wear a layer more than you. But if you don’t have ac at home and it is hot than I believe just an onsie should be fine. Be ready to change clothes often because babies tend to get their clothes dirty frequently by spiting up, leaking diapers, etc.
4.Yes you can. But do not use fabric softener.
5. You can put the baby on his tummy even before he is able to hold his head, this will help him. But he probably won’t like and take it for a very short time in the beginning and yes, you should stay by his side.
6. All depends on the size of your baby.

I was dissapointed when the doctor was telling me for my second pregnancy that I was having a boy because my family is full of girls and I never really dealt with baby boys before (plus I really didnt want to have to buy all new clothes, I know I am cheap), however, everybody kept reassuring me that boys are a lot easier. Why is that? And if that is true, why do people also keep telling me that girls catch on quicker than boys (i.e talking, toilet training, counting etc.)?
Honestly I cannot tell you why and to be honest when ppl told me that i didn’t believe them! But, I have a 2 1/2 year old little boy and just had a girl (she’s 6 wks old) and there is noooo comparison! My little boy what 10x’s easier! I want to know why too b/c she’s killin’ me!! lol! Good Luck!
At least not as much. There was a study done where an infant was dressed in boys and then girls clothes (to control for "personality") and then subjects were encouraged to play with them. Regardless of the actual gender, people played differently with the babies depending on the perceived gender. In other words, people were much gentler and more involved with the "girls" whereas they were rougher with the "boys" and let them wander around more.
I’ve got one of each. For some areas of life, my daughter is much easier to raise–listens better, less reckless, more sociable.
For some areas my son is much easier to raise–more independent (not wandering around, but requires less attention), easier to figure out his needs.
What I am finding parenting these two is that I don’t care what anyone says boys and girls are different. And individuals are different and have different needs. Some boys need their moms more than their sisters do. Some boys need more of their parents’ attention due to their boldness. Some girls do not appreciate rough and tumble. Some can kick a mean soccer ball.
Sometimes the stereotype comes from the culture’s real life experience. The trick is being able to change how you treat a boy or a girl based on what you learn about that particular child. Being willing to wrestle with a girl who gets a kick out of it, and nurturing a little boy who likes to take care of a baby doll.
Hey,
I was just searching online. Can you please tell me if these baby boy stuff are worth the money?

The Target links don’t work.
I’ve never used the sleeper, didn’t see the need for it as my baby was right next to me in bassinet. Second, we have a queen size bed and with the sleeper we won’t have much room left for us to sleep.
The bibs are cute but they usually come with the clothes when you buy 3 or 5 piece sets.
And toddler backrest.. why would you need it now? When your baby will be old enough to use it, I’m sure there will be tons of backrests more interesting for him to choose from, don’t rush it
My baby boy is 90th percentile in weight, and his cute but beefy thighs are making it difficult to find clothing that fits. Anyone know of baby clothing brands that have a decent selection for chubbier babies?
lol…my son is a little Chubber too, also in the 90th percentile….he just turned 4 months but is wearing 6-9 month clothes and some 12 month clothing. Targets Circo line is pretty good, i buy him the little $4 dollar sweats and they arent all tight on his thighs like other brands are…plus they are really light and stretchy. Also baby Gap has really good sweats as well….but its hard shopping for chubby babies! but they are so adorable arent they lol! well star for you and i will check back to see any more suggestions because im in the same predicament!

We are expecting our first child, a boy, any moment now (1 week 2 days overdue here!). I keep fussing with his room, looking at all of his clothes, walking through the mall looking at more clothes, you know just playing the waiting game. I have noticed that all of the little girl clothes are gorgeous, and basically just little versions of grown up clothes. Then, you go to the, depressingly small, boys section and all they have are stupid outfits with fish, monsters, cars, or sports stuff all over them! Also, why don’t they make jeans for infant boys? Seriously, I have found 3 pairs of jeans for boys under 12 months. I only bought one of them because the other ones were $30 a pair!! I can buy ME a pair of jeans for $30, I couldn’t believe it!?!?! Hubby and I aren’t into sports, or having every shirt our son wears declaring something stupid that means nothing. Why is it so hard to dress your little boy like daddy? What is wrong with a pair of jeans, a solid color onesie, and a nice little mock turtleneck collar zip-up? I would LOVE to find a 12 pack of solid color onesies, but alas I have yet to do so…
Does anyone know where you can find a good selection of ‘little man’ clothes at reasonable prices? (I live in the Metro-Detroit area if that helps, but I am into on-line shopping as well) I really am not into the idea of spending $30 on a pair of jeans he will only be able to wear for a couple of months…
Thanks!
Tracey – I totally didn’t take the seasons into account! Thank you for that, *lol*.
Also, when I say ‘jeans’ I mean a denim pant, or at least one the LOOKS denim. And I am FULLY aware that comfort will be the #1 prioity. While we are at home I really won’t care if he is just in a diaper, however I do want some nice things for when we go out, I do not think that is unreasonable!
Oh, and why have a lot of you assumed I am talking about only newborn clothes? I am thinking a few months out here…we have enough newborn stuff, and actually almost NO pants for him as a newborn, who would want elastic on their trying-to-heal-bellybutton?
i totally know what you mean!
my son is 2 1/2 and i remember when i was pregnant with him getting so frustrated with the lack of selection in the boy section. you look across the way and there are racks and racks of adorable little girl clothes! so annoying. it doesnt get better as they get older either.
i do manage to find cute stuff at jc penny’s, target, carter’s, babies r us, old navy, and sometimes at walmart.
ive never had a problem with finding jeans. walmart has the cheapest ones. usually $3-$10 a pair. the most ive spent is $20 on a pair of jeans, that was at a carter’s store.
check out the stores ive mentioned.
im glad you want to actually dress your child and not just let him run around in a onesie or just a diaper all day.
